The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has carpeted the Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Mr Gboyega Famodun, over his recent comment on those seeking its ticket for the Osun governorship polls, describing him as “ignorant”.
PDP, in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Sunday Bisi and made available to newsmen in Osogbo on Tuesday, described Famodun’s comment on the quality of governorship aspirants on the platform of the party as disparaging.
It maintained that such statement, in which the competence and ability of PDP aspirants were questioned, reflected paucity of knowledge and respect for truth, adding that Famodun lacks decency in political discourse.
PDP stressed that it parades the best brains in diverse walks of life, challenging the APC to come out and explain Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s pedigree before his voyage into politics.
“Our attention has been drawn to some unsavoury comments made by Osun state chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Mr Gboyega Famodun against some governorship aspirants on the platform of our party.
“Those disparaging comments credited to the APC chairman confirm the fact that the ruling party in Osun state is indeed headed by a man who has no knowledge and no respect for truth and decency in political discourse.
“It unfortunately exposes Mr Famodun’s ignorance about the true state of the educational, business, career and political pedigree of the aspirants who have indicated interest in governing Osun State on the PDP platform beginning from November this year.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Osun PDP parades some of the finest breed of politicians who have risen to the zenith of their chosen career and have demonstrated great capacity for management of human and material resources in various fields of endeavour in a period spanning between one and two decades.
“Our party is proud to have among its governorship aspirants Professors of repute, Senior Advocates in Law, Business moguls and Successful entrepreneurs, tested financial experts, distinguished legislators with enviable family pedigree and vibrant social crusaders.
“We challenge Mr Famodun to tell us Aregbesola’s record of service in the private sector before joining party politics in Lagos state,” the statement reads in part.
