2019 polls: Arms, ammunition being smuggled into Nigeria – APC Chieftain, Itoghor

A Chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Emonu-Orogun in Ughelli North Local Government Area, Mr. John Itoghor, Thursday alleged that arms and ammunition were being smuggled into the country by politicians ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Itoghor, who spoke at the Youth Consultative Forum on Violence-Free Credible Election, which held in Effurun near Warri, blamed the judiciary for the societal woes in the country.

Itoghor, the Treasurer of the APC in Emonu-Orogun, argued that if the judiciary was up to its responsibilities, the politicians and the youths would sit up right.

“Election is fast approaching and arms and ammunition are being smuggled into the country on daily basis.

“I blame the youths for all these problems in the country. Before now, we hear that some persons smuggled arms and ammunition into the country and till today, nobody has been jailed for maybe four or ten years.

“If the judiciary is up to its responsibilities, the politicians and youths will sit up,” he said.

Itoghor claimed that the politicians in their usual practices, hand over the smuggled arms and ammunition to the youths as soon as it landed into the country, to use before, during and after elections, as well as for other social vices.

Itoghor also called on the relevant security agencies to be on the alert to police the borders adequately and ensure that anyone caught with illegal fire arm was arrested and prosecuted in accordance with stipulated laws.
