LaLiga: Real Madrid manager reacts after Barcelona open two-point gap

Real Madrid manager, Julen Lopetegui, has said he still has plenty of confidence in his squad but was disappointed in only getting a 1-1 draw at Athletic Bilbao.

Iker Muniain gave the hosts the lead at the new San Mames, before substitute Isco headed home in the second half to level matters.

The draw sees Real two points behind rivals Barcelona, who have won all their fixtures so far and sit on top of LaLiga with 12 points.

“A draw for Real Madrid is never good.

“We came for three points and we didn’t get them,” Lopetegui said after the game.

Isco came on for Luka Modric in the 61st minute and gave Madrid a spark going forward. Asked after the game if he had lost confidence in Saturday’s goalscorer, Lopetegui replied: “I don’t see a drop in his standard. I have plenty of confidence in Isco.

“And the rest of the squad, that has not changed.”
