A 48-year-old car dealer, Akanbi Abdulrahman, on Friday, appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing a Toyota Venza car, valued N5 million.
Abdulrahman, who lives at Abesan Estate, Ipaja, a Lagos suburb, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Peter Nwangwu, told the court that the accused committed the offences in May 31 at 2 p.m. at Block 7, Flat 6, Ipaja, Lagos.
He said the accused was contracted by the complainant, Mr Ajayi Abimbola to procure the car.
“The accused took delivery of the car valued N5 million, but failed to deliver it to the complainant.
“He absconded with the car until he was caught last month,’’ the prosecutor said.
Nwangwu said the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).
Section 287 provides a three-year jail term for stealing.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Y. O. Aje-Afunwa, granted the accused bail in the sum of N900, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Aje-Afunwa, thereafter, adjourned the case to Dec. 17 for mention.
