Lagos 2019: Council chairman expresses fear over violence, criminal activities

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, a Lagos council Chairman has expressed fear over the activities of criminals to disrupt the elections process in the State.

In the aftermath of the recent cult-related killings that rocked Obanikoro, Somolu and environs, the executive chairman of Somolu Local Government, Abdul Hamed Salawu, has frowned at the spate of violence in the community as the 2019 general election draws nearer.

He expressed his fears while addressing Somolu political leaders at the Somolu Local Government Secretariat, Lagos.

According to him, the law enforcement agencies had been made to understand that it’s high time to put an end to the incessant breakdown of law and order and the various activities of miscreants threatening the peace of the community.

“Our government has been working tirelessly to rebrand Somolu and make the community to be safe for residents and visitors, yet some elements are springing up to jeopardize our efforts. We won’t take it,” he said.

Meanwhile, the council boss said the residents of the community should cooperate with men of the Nigeria Police, Nigerian Army, NDLEA, LNSC and other law enforcement agencies to ensure a safe community for all.

He urged the residents to promptly report suspicious activities around them to relevant security agencies.
