The National Boarder Community Development Agency has expressed concern over the poor execution of the Federal Government Rice Mill project in Gurin, a boarder town in Fufore Local Government area of Adamawa.
The project contract was awarded to Meenzee Prestige company, in early 2018 at the cost of N25 million, to be completed within six months.
Mr Bonnet Habila, who led an inspection team from the agency headquarters in Abuja, expressed concern over the job done so far, after assessing the facilities on Saturday.
“We are in Gurin for fact finding and assessment of the federal government rice mill project.
“We are at the site to evaluate the level of the project following a petition filed by the Gurin Development Association.
“We are going to report what we exactly found on ground for possible review and upgrade of the rice mill,” Habila said.
The team leader thanked the community for their observations and in informing the agency over the substandard quality of the entire project, including the installation of low quality machines.
Chairman of Gurin Development Association, Alhaji Abubakar Salihu, said the association decided to write the petition because the project was not properly executed.
Salihu appealed to the agency and the Adamawa Ministry for Boarder Integration to intervene and ensure all the abnormalities were corrected.
He described the rice mill project as step forward in actualising the dream of people in the area to contribute to the national food security programme.
The representative of the company handling the project, Alhaji Idris Turaki, assured that the company would address the issues raised by the community and also link the rice mill with national grid.
