Ex-militant leaders endorse Buhari

A coalition of leaders of ex-agitators in the Niger-Delta have thrown their weight behind the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, President Muhammadu Buhari ahead of the Presidential elections.

The ex-agitators under the aegis of Peace Ambassadors for the Niger-Delta said President Buhari had shown genuine commitment to the development of the region.

The coalition of leaders of ex-agitators at a media briefing in Port Harcourt read by Ebikabowie Victor Ben also known as Boyloaf said the endorsement of President Buhari is not an endorsement for the APC in all elective positions.

Boyloaf said despite the defeat of one of their own in the 2015 election (President Goodluck Jonathan), they have decided to endorse President Buhari because of his sincererity to repair Nigeria.

Leaders of the ex-militants also said they were convinced by the policies of the incumbent administration as highlighted by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

“In spite of the pressure by some groups and individuals on this government to scrap the Amnesty Program the government which President Buhari rejected, we have seen a resolve by the government to refocus the program on human capital development over the routine welfare and palliative payments.

“The government has engaged strategically by empowering the local economy by protecting it from the harmful effects of illegal refining to executing agreements to invest in modular refineries in the Niger Delta region. This is the right way to go.

“In spite of several promises by several administrations this government has through the Assistant Secretary of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed has set a framework for the Clean up of Ogoni.

“This is the largest of such effort in the world expected to cost $1b. As we speak, contractors have been mobilised for the first phase of the exercise.”
