Meet Ezra Olubi, Entrepreneur, Technologist and Co-founder/CTO of Paystack


Ezra Olubi, Co-founder and Chief Technical Officer of Paystack, a modern online and offline payments gateway. Ezra entrepreneurial innovative exploits in fintech is the much needed example for budding entrepreneurs in Nigeria.

Paystack is a payment platform that makes the online payments process seamless for both the consumers and the businesses they are trying to pay.

He is a talented IT professional with over 5 years experience in developing result-oriented applications across the web, desktop and mobile platforms. He holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science from Babcock University, Ogun State, Nigeria; where he was awarded ‘Programmer of the Year’ two consecutive times.

Earlier in his career, Ezra Olubi served as an IT Administrator at Business Management Consultant Limited, Web Application Developer at North Ocean Logistic and Solutions Ltd, Head of Developers and then Head of Product at Softcom, CTO at Jobberman, CTO at Delivery Science, and Director of Magic at Alexander Haring Ltd.

Ezra Co-founded Paystack with Shola Akinlade in 2015 when they discovered the online payments’ system is broken and unreliable. 

Paystack became the first Nigerian tech firm to be accepted into the renowned incubator program – Y Combinator Program, based in Silicon Valley, and got seeded with $120,000. As a result, they attracted investors all around securing $1.5 million from the likes of Tencent, M&S, Spark, Tokyo Founders’ Fund amongst others. The firm has processed over a billion naira since they left the beta stage of the incubator program.

For over 2 years Paystack has embedded itself deep into the Nigerian payments ecosystem, processing about 15% of online transactions in Africa’s largest economy, according to Kola Aina, a venture capitalist and partner at Ventures Platform.

In the two years since operations began, Paystack has consistently experienced an astronomical growth as Paystack is helpful for on-demand services, e-commerce, financial services, entertainment, travel and hospitality.
