The Adamawa State Government said on Wednesday that it has not suspended the payment of minimum wage because of the impact of Coronavirus.
The Director General of Media and Communications in the Government House, Yola, Mr Solomon Kumangar, who made the assertion to newsmen, said March salaries based on N32,000 minimum wage was already being paid.
“Alerts are already being received for March salaries, which is the N32,000 minimum wage that we started last year, and we are the first state in the country to pay March salaries,” Kumangar said.
He had earlier issued a press statement announcing that owing to the exigencies imposed by the Coronavirus outbreak, consequential adjustments on minimum wage agreed between government and the organised labour which should have commenced this month will wait till further notice.
Most reporters had taken the statement to mean suspension in minimum wage payment and did their reports accordingly.
He had then called all reporters to his office Wednesday afternoon, clarifying that minimum wage as the government started paying in November 2019 had not been altered, and that only consequential adjustments for senior civil servants (levels 07-17) had been suspended.
