Obiano constructs gate at Anambra State boundaries to stop influx of travelers

Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano has installed gates in border communities leading into Anambra State.
The move is part of the state governments’ measure to discourage interstate travel in the fight against COVID-19.
Recall that the Anambra governor had previously lamented the porosity of its borders, especially as one of the COVID-19 cases in the state was said to have returned from Kano, despite the closure of the border.
The governor had earlier sent appointees of his administration to man all border communities with a threat to sanction appointees whose borders are discovered to admit motorists.
Mr. Ifeanyi Aniagoh, an aide to the Anambra State governor and the Director-General of the Digital Entrepreneurship Office, who disclosed this said, ” it’s a measure to beat Coronavirus.
“Anambra has locked up boundaries with Enugu State. If we stop moving, the virus will stop moving and die off, Together we shall win this war!”
Our correspondent who visited the boundary on Thursday morning found that the gate was installed on the bridge leading into the state from the old Enugu-Onitsha road.
At the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway however, travelers were seen crossing into the state on foot, after getting to the Enugu end of the border.
