Zamfara taskforce on COVID-19 counters NCDC’s claim on number of cases

The Zamfara State main committee on coronavirus has refuted claims making the rounds that the state has recorded ten confirmed cases of the COVID_19 pandemic.
This disclaimer is a reaction to reports by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC on Tuesday that 216 COVID-19 cases were recorded in fourteen states, including the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
NCDC had said Zamfara State recorded 10 out of the 216 cases but the Zamfara State COVID-19 Taskforce said the investigation was not properly conducted by the NCDC.
The Chairman of the Zamfara State committee on COVID_19, who also doubles as the speaker of the state’s House of Assembly, Nasiru Muazu, noted that the state only recorded two new confirmed cases on Monday, May 18th.
The chairman asked the NCDC to apologize to the state and correct the error immediately to build the confidence of citizens, in the fight against the COVID-19 disease rather than ruling on guesses.
“The two new cases make the number of active cases of the virus to be twenty-eight in the state,” he said.
The chairman enjoined Nigerians to know that COVID-19 is real, saying that the issue of coronavirus should not be treated with a mere wave of the hand.
He, however, explained that several measures are being put in place by the government, to prevent the spread of the virus.
