Gov. Abiodun is afraid of conducting LG election in Ogun because he will fail, Oginni mocks

.. says party ready to take over Ogun from APC through LG polls

The Ogun state chairman of New Nigeria Peoples Party, Comrade Olaposi Oginni has expressed displeasure over an alleged refusal of the state government to hold Local government election one year after taking over governance.

Oginni who described the constitution of  LG caretaker committee by governor Dapo Abiodun as abberation, insisted that the government must begin the process of holding the election soon.

The NNPP chairman said this on Tuesday while speaking newsmen in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Oginni who doubles as the state chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Council noted that all political parties are ready for the LG election, stressing that the governor must be ready to listen to the voice of the masses.

He emphasised that there cannot be development in the state except the Local council is properly managed by the people's representatives.

He maintained that the governor alongside the ministry of Local government and chieftancy affair should as a matter of urgency constitute the committee of the Ogun state Independent Electoral Commission so as to begin the process of holding the LG polls across the state before December.

He added, "I think we need to educate the Ogun state government and most of the aides of the governor because most of them are not aware of what the constitution says about separation of power. Most of them fail to know that what they are doing is an affront on the constitution of federal republic of Nigeria.

"I want to tell the governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun that the constitution of the caretaker committee is against the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria, it is against the separation of power. It is an aberration and it must stop forthwith.

"We think as a democrat that he claimed to be, he must know that the good people of Ogun State has the right to be represented by the people of their choice at the local level and we will not allow any governor including Dapo Abiodun to trespass on the right of our people.

"We are calling on the governor and even the ministry of local government affairs that they as a matter of urgency constitute Ogun state Independent Electoral Commission to fast track the election into the local council in Ogun state.

"Our people are tired of this imposition, they are tired of the governor suffocating the development of the local government through using his cronies as caretaker.

"There is no any development going on in all the 20 LGs in Ogun state for crying at loud. We believe development we are talking about can only come up through local government.

"I am speaking on behalf of all political parties in Ogun state that we are ready for the LG election and that the APC led government of Dapo Abiodun cannot be having free day where they will have the allocations of the local government being pocketed."

Speaking on the three-month ultimatum, the NNPP chairman vowed to take legal action against the government if they fail to hold the election in three months.

Oginni mocked the state government saying," Most of the incompetency of this government, they have always hid it under the COVID-19."

He however said the fear of being defeat is what is allegedly keeping the governor from holding the LG election in the state.

He further said, "talking about six months is a reckless statement by the commissioner for LG and chieftaincy affair. I want to tell them that Ogun state is not their company, it belongs to everyone of us, this is not a state they can run at their own time frame.

"The LG election is expected to take place this year and he has been ground standing, he has been hiding under this COVID. Most of the incompetency of this government, they have always hid it under the COVID-19.

"COVID has come and gone, they should stop parading their incompetence in the name of COVID-19.

"What they can do as a true democrat is to set up machinery for this election; we are battled ready.

" We know they are afraid of conducting any election because they know they are going to fail woefully even at the local level; Nigerians and Ogun state people are going to reject them. If they know they can win any election, let them set up the OGISEC, and let us meet in field.

"This local government is going to give him a red card that he is not popular  and his party is no longer popular. If they know, let them dare us and come out fastly to conduct this local government election, we are ready for them.

" We are giving them three months or they will meet us in court. We are not going to be violent, but we are ready to ensure they do the right thing.

"We will take them to court and we believe the allocation they are embezzling will stop and then the court will rule that the election must be held."
