The Community Action Peace Network, CPAN, of the Interfaith Mediation Centre, IMC, Kaduna State, has called on Nigerians to shun violence and follow the path of peace by using all available means to report their grievances to the relevant offices across the country.
The interfaith mediation Centre noted that the protest has taken some twist in the country; such that it has disrupted people’s movement in some areas, affected businesses, increased intolerance/hate speeches across different regions amongst others.
The Interfaith Co-Executive Directors, Pastor Dr. James Movel Wuye and Imam Dr. Muhammad Nurayn Ashafa in a statement issued in Kaduna said the protest has shown support by some Nigerians in the diaspora and other citizens across the world.
The statement explained, “In view of the happenings, the Community Peace Action Network, CPAN, acknowledged the efforts of notable Nigerians, and the government setting up judicial panels of inquiry that would adopt public hearings to help address the problems in respective states, including the Federal Capital Territory.”
It expressed delight with the dissolution of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, a branch under the Nigerian Police Force, under the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, FCIID.
The Community Peace Action Network appealed to Nigerian youths to imbibe the culture of peace by ensuring that as they embark on the protest, they should ensure that the process is peaceful in all venues of such protest.
It also called on the federal and state governments to as a matter of urgency look into the matter by adopting a dialogue platform with all necessary bodies within the country to ensure that all concerns are listened to and measures to mitigate its escalation is ensured.
“We call on the Nigerian Youth to embrace dialogue as a means to bring about a better understanding between the government and the entire citizens in the country on reforms that is acceptable to all Nigerians,” the Interfaith suggested.
It called on all media platforms to avail Nigerians space to dialogue in the best interest of peace and serenity in the nation by engaging with stakeholders of reputable character and religious leaders to call for calm on the way forward.
“We at the Interfaith Mediation Center (IMC) acknowledged that only through dialogue and sincere communication from both the citizens and government that will avail us the opportunity to make an impact in the development of our country,” the statement observed.
