Driver arraigned for alleged killing of man in Ogun

 

A 29-year-old driver, Barnabas Batiri, who allegedly drove a vehicle in a reckless manner, leading to the death of a man, was on Friday arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.

The Prosecutor, A. O. Adebayo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Nov. 5 at about 1 pm, at the Bells Bus Stop, Idiriko road, Ota.

Adebayo said that the defendant drove a Man Diesel truck, with registration number GBE 369 XA, recklessly, thus resulting in the death of one Jacob Egbe, 55.

She said that the offences contravened Sections 6(1) and 17 of the Federal Highway Act, Cap.135, revised Laws of the Federation, 2006.

Delivering Judgement, the Chief Magistrate, Mr O. L. Oke, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Oke directed that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, be gainfully employed and with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun government.

He adjourned the case till Nov. 18, for further hearing, NAN reports.
