One of the End SARS advocates, Modupe (Moe) Odele has reacted to the denial by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) that her passport was seized because of her involvement in the campaign against police brutality.
Moe was stopped by authorities from boarding an international flight as Immigration officials seized her passport without disclosing her offence.
However, Immigration, on Thursday, said Moe’s passport was seized for a routine check after an order was given.
The spokesperson for the NIS, Sunday James, said the passport was seized as part of a routine border assignment.
“As an enforcement agency in charge of border management, if there is an order restricting anybody from entry into the country, we enforce it without any prejudice,” he was quoted saying.
Reacting, Moe who was to travel for a personal trip, described the continued seizure of her passport by the immigration as a constitutional breach.
She demanded to know who gave the order for her passports to be seized and asked for it to be returned.
On her Twitter page, Moe wrote: “Let’s center the main issue. My passport was taken with no reason given. This is an ongoing constitutional breach.
“Section 38 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) DSS v. Agbakoba (1999) 3 NWLR (PT. 595)
“There’s no list but there’s an order. But also it was routine. Confused.
“Who gave the order/directive and when can I please have my passport back?”
Moe was actively involved in the #EndSARS campaign, offering legal aid to persons who were arrested during the demonstration.
