Borno Massacre: Reps will consider compensation to farmers in Zambamari – Gbajabiamila

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabimaila has disclosed that the House will consider a compensation package of Farmers in Zambamari who recently suffered attacks by Boko Haram insurgents which resulted in the killings of 43 farmers.

Gbajabimila in his remarks on Tuesday said the compensation is to prevent the farmers from rushing back to their farm to harvest as it has turned to a killing field.

He noted that Nigeria “has not won and do not appear close to winning the war against terrorism in Nigeria.”

Adding that “While we seek lasting solutions to the problems that threaten us, improving the lives of the people who have lost the most from this conflict must be part of our commitment. In the interim, we will consider interventions that compensate the people of Zabarmari for the loss of their harvest so that they are not so deprived that they return quickly to the killing feeds where already, they have lost so much.”

Despite calling for compensation in the speech, Mr. Gbajabiamila attempted to prevent the House from summoning President Muhamadu Buhari.

However, following a closed-door session, Speaker Gbajabiamila later conceded to the demand of the House to Summon President Buhari.

The Motion to summon the President was moved by Ahmed Jaha and was unanimously adopted by the House.
