EPL: Van de Beek should not have joined Manchester United – Van Gaal

Former Manchester United boss, Louis van Gaal has said that Donny van de Beek made a mistake in joining the club from Ajax.

Manchester United signed the Dutchman after his impressive performance at the central midfield of Ajax last season.

However, it has been tough going for Van de Beek at Old Trafford as he has made only two starts in the Premier League this season.

The 23-year-old started the game against West Ham earlier this month but was substituted at half-time with United trailing 1-0.

After he was withdrawn, United went ahead to win the game 3-1 and the former Ajax star is yet to get another opportunity.

And Van Gaal, who was sacked at Old Trafford, said he foresaw the problems Van de Beek is facing.

“I hope his time will come, but I don’t think he made a good choice,” the former United boss told Dutch television channel Ziggo.

“I said that right away.

“If you have Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes, what position should Van de Beek be in?

“He doesn’t have the qualities of Pogba and Fernandes. And now you see that Pogba often doesn’t start. Where should Van de Beek play then? I think you could have seen that beforehand.”
