Carabao Cup: Solskjaer gives reasons for Man United 2-0 loss to Man City, reveals best team in England

Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided some reasons for his side’s 2-0 defeat to city rivals, Manchester City in the Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday.

He said United lost the game simply because they did not create enough chances to score goals and did not have the extra quality that had helped them win matches in the Premier League recently.

Solskjaer said his team lost to Pep Guardiola’s side, who according to him, are the best team in England at the moment.

Soslkjaer insisted that the Red Devils’ failure to make it to the final for four occasions now is “not psychological.”

United fell short against City on Wednesday with goals from John Stones and Fernandinho, setting Pep Guardiola’s side against Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham in this season’s league Cup final at the Wembley in April.

The Red Devils have lost all four semi-finals they have played in since Solskjaer took over in December 2018.

But the Norwegian gaffer says that Man Utd’s issues on this stage are merely a coincidence.

Fielding questions from Sky Sports after the game, Solskjaer said, “We didn’t create enough big chances. They didn’t either. We didn’t have the extra finesse we’ve had in the games lately. We weren’t good enough today.

“We played against a very good Manchester City team. They played well. When they play well you have to play very well to beat them. We were just lacking that little bit.

“We’re getting closer. This is a much better version of United than a year ago in those semis.

“It’s not psychological [losing in four semi-finals]. Sometimes you meet good teams in the semis. We met City who, at the moment, are probably the best team in England.”
