Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has sent a message of condolence to the Adamawa State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) over the death of its member, Ibrahim Abdulaziz.
This was as the NUJ on Saturday morning declared a 3-day mourning for the late writer and broadcaster who at the time of death was the Adamawa State correspondent of Voice of America (VOA) and Premium Times as well as broadcaster with Yola-based Gotel Communications, a TV/radio house owned by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Ibrahim Abdulaziz had died on Friday in Alkaleri, Bauchi State, following an accident involving a vehicle in which he was travelling.
Governor Fintiri, in a statement signed by his Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, expressed his condolences and that of the Government and all the people of Adamawa State to NUJ, the family of the deceased, and his associates.
“Abdulaziz’s death is coming at a time when the media industry can benefit more from his wealth of experience,” the Governor said, urging the family and friends of the deceased to draw strength from Allah to bear the loss.
“Although the death of this versatile journalist is very painful, one has to take heart and appreciate Almighty Allah for a life well spent,” Fintiri stated.
On its part, the Adamawa State Council of NUJ has declared three days for members to mourn their departed colleague.
The NUJ, in a statement signed by Secretary, Comrade Fidelis Jockthan, urged all Chapels to suspend all union activities and hoist the flag half-mast in honour of the late veteran.
The statement said the NUJ would continue to remember the late Ibrahim Abdullaziz for his doggedness, fearless and investigative journalism as well as contribution to union activities.
Ibrahim Abdulaziz, who was 48 years old, is survived by three wives and nine children.
His body was being moved to Yola as this report was concluded just before noon Saturday and is scheduled for burial at 2pm.
