LaLiga: Laporta announces names to join him at Barcelona if he wins elections

Barcelona presidential candidate, Joan Laporta, has officially announced the individuals he will work with should he win the elections.

Laporta, a former President of the club, along with vice presidential candidate, Rafael Yuste, revealed the two key additions to their project in a press conference on Thursday evening.

Former goalkeeper of the club, Victor Valdes, was one of the names the sports chiefs have chosen to work with.

The other is Mateu Alemany. Valdes is currently working as the coach of the youth team but will now have to return to the club if Laporta is elected.

Yuste said that Alemany will be a great addition to the club due to his vast knowledge of the game.

“Alemany has enormous knowledge of football at all levels. We will be happy to have him if Laporta wins the elections,” he said.

Mateu Alemany has held the position of general manager at Valencia prior to this.

Yuste also spoke about bringing back club legend, Carles Puyol, recalling the club’s success under Laporta’s previous tenure.

“Barcelona succeeded greatly during Laporta’s era. To do that again, we need to recover the values, those represented by Carles Puyol, whom we also want back at the club.

“When Laporta says that he believes Messi will continue it’s because he knows it,” added Yuste, speaking about Lionel Messi’s renewal with the club.

The elections are scheduled for the 7th of March and Laporta is favourite to win.
