Hijab similar to Catholic nuns head coverings - Imam Aliagan

An Islamic Cleric, Abubakar Imam-Aliagan, said the hijab crisis in Kwara State should not be allowed to degenerate.

The Professor called for peace and explained that the hijab was like the head coverings of the Catholic nuns.

NAN reports that Imam-Aliagan spoke on Friday during his sermon on Madrasat Muhammad.

Christians and Muslims have been at loggerheads over hijab-wearing for female students in 10 government grant-aided missionary schools.

The lecturer at the Department of Religions at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ilorin, remembered that the state government took control of all missionary schools in 1974.

He also recalled that in the past, the government delegated Christians to head Muslim missionary schools and vice versa.

“The school I attended was an Islamic missionary school; Ansar Islam Primary School, headed by a Christian.

“We are now at an era where it is only Muslim Principal or Headmaster that will head Muslim schools and Christian will head Christian schools.”

The cleric regretted that people of both faiths are against each other after decades of harmony.

Imam Aliagan urged the state government to resolve the matter.
