The President of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Rev. Stephen Baba Panya, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the funds released to the Nigerian military to purchase weapons, but sadly are still crying that criminals carry more sophisticated arms than them.

He equally called on the Federal Government to use the strategy it used in ensuring the recent release of kidnapped school children in Katsina, Niger and Zamfara States in ensuring the release of Leah Sharibu, Alice Ngaddah, Lilian Gyang, Rev. Polycarp Zongo, the remaining Chibok girls among others.

The President also said ignoring the 2014 National Conference Resolutions is “tantamount to throwing away the baby with the birth water.”

Baba Panya made the call while briefing journalists at the Church’s headquarters in Jos the Plateau State Capital.

He said, “This is very sad for people like us who have continued to read and hear in the media that millions of dollars have been budgeted and released for the purchase of weapons.

“The first thing is, why is it that up till today the Nigeria Military is still crying of inadequate fighting equipment, despite the huge sums spent, which translates to billions of naira, all in the name of supposed purchase of weapons?

“I believe that there is need to actually probe how the money that has been released for the purchase of weapons, have been utilize over these years”, he maintained.”

The President, however, said, “But while probing, whatever that can be done in order to acquire more sophisticated arms, I will still support for them to get more superior weapons”.

Speaking on showing common concern and care for all, Baba Panya said, “We watched with joy the effort and urgency that the Federal and various State governments in the north made for the rescue of school children kidnapped in Katsina, Zamfara and Niger States.

“Very sadly, despite several promises by President Mohammadu Buhari and security agencies, freedom remains a mirage for Leah Sharibu and other Christian girls like Alice Loksha Ngadah, Grace Lukas, Lilliang Gyang and the remaining Chibok girls. Not to mention Rev. Polycarp Zango, the eight Redeemed Christian Church of God members and many other Christians in captivity of Boko Haram, ISWAP and bandits alike”, he decried.

“The President and security agencies need to show more commitment, care and concern for all, irrespective of their religious faith and make effort to free all those in captivity”, he maintained.

On the 2014 National Conference resolutions, the ECWA President said, “To ignore the deliberations and resolutions of the 2014 conference is tantamount to throwing away the baby with the birth water.

“We therefore reiterate our call that the 2014 National Conference, which has over 600 resolutions, be implemented because it has substantially addressed these challenges.

“We urge the Buhari administration to put in place the necessary mechanisms for implementation of recommendations of the Conference Report”, he maintained.

“The Executive, Legislature and Judiciary and other stakeholders should work together to actualize this”, he stressed.

On the return of missions schools to their owners, Baba Panya said, “In the short term, we call on the Kwara State government to return all mission schools to their owners without any grant aiding.

“Let Missions schools be administered according to the tenets of their faith and anyone who voluntarily chooses to enrol their wards there must be ready to abide by the established rules and regulations of the school”, he stressed.

On the Mai Tangale Stool, he said, “We understand that this has been challenged in the court of law.

“We encourage the good and peace-loving people of Tangale to continue with this legitimate and peaceful means of seeking redress, trusting that God will use the courts, adjudged as the last hope of the common man, to ensure that justice is done, so that the popular choice of the people can be honoured”, he admonished.

Speaking on the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria and other non- state actors, the ECWA President said,
“This organisation and all non-state actors must be called to order to stop their incisive and vituperative statements and activities.”
