Makinde explains why he sacked contractor handling Ibadan circular road

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Wednesday explained the rationale behind his order that the contractor handling Ibadan circular road should leave the site.

Saga Gist recalls that Makinde had last month ordered the contractor handling the road to leave.

Makinde has, however, said that he ordered the contractor to leave the site due to the slow pace of work on the project.

The governor stated this during a tour of the project

He noted that his administration sacked the contractor inherited from the previous administration due to unsatisfactory slow pace of work.

He, however, promised that his administration will complete the 32-kilometre stretch, First Phase of Ibadan Circular Road, before the end of his tenure on May 28, 2023.

He added that the former contractor would be unable to deliver the road in another 20 years if allowed to continue at that slow pace.

Makinde promised to pay the sacked contractor after evaluating work done.

“We have terminated the initial arrangement.

“This is the road that we think will change the economy of Oyo State substantially but the previous contractor, if we had continued with their pace, maybe they may finish in another 20 years, ” the Governor said.
