Michael Owen, a former Manchester United striker, has predicted tonight’s Champions League quarter-final first-leg clash between Real Madrid and Liverpool at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium.
Owen also predicted Manchester City’s clash with Borussia Dortmund at the Etihad Stadium.
Providing his predictions, Owen told BetVictor, “Manchester City welcome Borussia Dortmund to the Etihad ahead of a match, which on paper has the potential to be a classic.
“Although a few years have passed, Pep Guardiola is no stranger to the Germans after going head-to-head with them on multiple occasions whilst manager of rivals Bayern Munich.
“This time around, Guardiola’s City side are on the cusp of greatness as they remain on course in all competitions. It’s 26 wins in their last 27 for the Citizens, and with the visitors arriving here in poor form, they’ll be confident of notching a 1st leg victory.
“Dortmund lost at the weekend, making it one win in five matches. So, it makes it hard to argue against anything other than a home win.
“With that in mind, if City are at their very best, I can see them putting the tie to bed on the night. Manchester City 4, Borussia Dortmund 1.”
On the Real Madrid vs Liverpool game, Owen said, “Well, it’s fair to say these two have history. Both are special to me, so it’s always nice to see them go head-to-head. On this occasion, the pair are in the middle of indifferent seasons. However, Real Madrid have seemingly turned the corner after going 11 matches undefeated, winning 9.
“A quick look at Liverpool’s away form tells you a different story to their league position as well. The Reds look much more comfortable on their travels, having won seven of their last eight. Interestingly, they are also undefeated on the road in the Champions League this season.
“So, with the pair returning to better form, I think this will be tight. I do fancy Liverpool to score, and given their solidness away from Anfield in this competition, I reckon they can take a draw home. Real Madrid 1, Liverpool 1.”
The kick-off time for the matches is 8 pm.
