Gunmen kill 9 persons, 23 cows in Anambra

 

Unknown gunmen have attacked Ukpomachi Village, Awkuzu in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra state, killing about nine residents and 23 cows.

Saga Gist gathered that the assailants launched the attack in the early hours of Monday.

It was also gathered that the incident erupted tension at the Igbariam campus of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University located in the area.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the incident in a statement.

According to the PPRO, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Monday Kuryas, urged residents to remain calm stressing that the command had deployed officers to the affected area.

He said: “The Commissioner has ordered the immediate deployment of the command’s operational and intelligence assets to identify and apprehend the unknown armed men, who violently attacked Ukpomachi Village, Awkuzu in Oyi LGA of the state in the early hours of 26th, April 2021.

“Meanwhile, a crack team of police operatives of the command led by an Assistant Commissioner of Police, had visited the scene and conducted on- the- spot-assessment of the incident In the meantime, the command has successfully restored normalcy in the area.”
