Blame Oil bonkerers, military for soot in Rivers State - Gov Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has blamed men of the Nigerian Army, oil workers and Artisanal Refiners for the soot that is ravaging Port Harcourt and its environs.

The Governor said the three “conspirators” are involved in the acts that generate the soot.

Governor Wike made the assertion during the Workers Day Celebration by workers in the state.

Represented at the event by the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Doctor Tammy Danagogo Wike said “this black soot you are witnessing in Rivers State, there are three conspirators involved. The first are those they call Artisanal Refiners but we know them as oil bunkrers, they are our brothers and sisters”.

“The second are the oil workers, they are members of your unions and the third is the military, they are controlled by the Federal government”.

“These are the three people that cause black soot but the state government is doing everything possible to ensure that these people stop doing what they are doing”.

He advised the labour unions to direct their criticisms to the appropriate people including the “military, workers who show them where to open and relatives who fo the illegal business.

The Governor was responding to an earlier call by the Chairman of the Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Beatrice Itubo for the state government to immediately stop the people causing the soot across the state.

Itubo accused the state government of doing nothing to stop the soot that started years ago.
