Security agencies have been cautioned against violating fundamental human rights and flagrant infraction of the Constitution as the law is clear and straightforward on the mode and manner of arrest and detention of suspects.
This is also as youths have been warned to remain calm and law abiding and to eschew actions that are capable of disrupting the peace of Osun State.
This plea was made by the Osun State Chapter of the Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC) in a press release signed by its Chairman, Olaoluwa Onifade on Thursday in Osogbo, the state capital.
Onifade hinted that as a youth focused group, the NYC does not subscribe to rioting and violence in any form.
While acknowledging the efforts of security agencies and their commitment to the peace and order that has been prevalent across the state, he condemned in totality the harassment, intimidation and unlawful arrest of youths by security agents as recorded in the recent protest over the arrest of suspected internet fraudsters by the EFCC on Tuesday.
The NYC also commended the state government for responding swiftly to the situation and dousing the tension.
Onifade, in the release, had revealed that the attention of the NYC had been drawn to the event that transpired between officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and a set of youths during the wee hours of Tuesday in Osogbo.
Saga Gist had reported a protest on Tuesday, 18th May, 2021 after the EFCC conducted a raid of suspected internet fraudsters hideout at Adetunji Estate.
The youths, who barricaded major access routes in the town with bonfires, took their protest to the Government House, Oke-Fia, where they were addressed by the Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode, and the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Yemi Lawal.
