Former Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Senator Shehu Sani on Tuesday condemned the increase in school fees of Kaduna State-owned tertiary institutions.
Sani, who wrote on his Facebook wall, described the increment as immoral and unconscionable. He said it was sad that no lawmaker from both the ruling and opposition parties at both state and federal levels has the courage to speak or stand for the students and demand a reversal.
According to him, “The increase in the tuition fees for the Students of Kaduna State University is immoral, unconscionable and the height of insensitivity.
“It’s sad that no lawmaker from both the ruling and the opposition parties, at both the state and federal levels has the courage to speak or stand for these students and demand for a reversal.
“When people who are elected into office are indifferent or afraid to stand for what is right and just, then the situation is hopeless.”
Saga Gist recalls that tuition fees for all Kaduna State tertiary institutions (state polytechnic, College of Education, School of Nursing) was recently reviewed upward, an increase of 200 percent.
Although, the school management has denied the upward review, saying it was a widespread rumor that has no element of truth.
KASU Public Relations Officer, Adamu Nuhu Bargo, disclosed that the tuition fees would be reviewed upwards but the figures reported are false.
According to him, “Furthermore, Management wishes to state that though tuition fees would be reviewed upward with specific fees on each course but yet to be announced.
“The figures being spread in social media are false.
“The public will be informed on any new developments within the shortest possible time.”
But there was little or no changes in school fees cited on Tuesday as students in the Art department are to pay N150,000, Science students pay as much as N300,000 and N500,000 while returning students, N100,000.
