The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, SOKAPU, has expressed concern that suspected Fulani militias ambushed and killed people coming from their farms in Goska village, Kaninkon Chiefdom, Jemaa Local Government Area of Kaduna state.
The SOKAPU spokesman, Luka Binniyat, in a statement explained that in the past one week, Godogodo town and Golkofa village Godogodo Chiefdom, Jemaa local government area have also witnessed similar invasions by the suspected Fulani militias.
According to the statement, it is followed with sequence of other killings and raids on Southern Kaduna communities in the past few weeks, saying, “We demand that those behind these heinous crimes which bears all the signs of genocide be brought to justice.”
In the same vein, the statement condemned the utter silence on the path of Kaduna state government over the kidnap of 72 Adara natives from their villages in Libere, Kallah ward, Kajuru local government area, of Kaduna state since 22nd April, 2021.
It said it is sad that such a huge number of citizens would be forcefully taken from their homes and not even a mere acknowledgement of their plight from a government whose cardinal responsibility is to protect them.
It explained that recently, N8 million was paid to the kidnappers and before they could have released 18 persons, adding that as at now, information reaching SOKAPU indicates that about 20 of the hostages had escaped at different times.
It is of the belief that the kidnappers are still holding 34 hostages for the past 39 days ago, stressing that they are demanding N10 million as ransom before their release.
The statement observed that Kaduna state is becoming more and more unsafe for its residents, pointing out that no day that passes that a community is not attacked in Kaduna state or persons are kidnapped as individuals or in groups.
It explained that there is currently mass relocation of residents living on the fringes of Kaduna suburbs to safer parts of Kaduna town, saying that kidnappers have been laying siege to these vulnerable communities leaving residents with no alternative than to flee away from their homes.
It said if something is not done to check the increasing ungoverned spaces springing up in Kaduna state, no one can predict the disaster that is looming ahead.
