A sociopolitical organization, the Peoples Democratic Party Coalition (PDPCO) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to use the celebration of Eid-el Kabir to extend the hands of love to all Nigerians by lending a listening ear to the yearnings of the people as well as working out modalities on how best to dialogue and settle ethnic agitations, get rid of insurgencies and curb the menace of herdsmen killings in the country.
The coalition’s call was contained in a message signed by its National Coordinator, Chief Emeka Kalu, congratulating Muslims on the commemoration of 2021 Eid-el Kabir on Tuesday morning.
The PDPCO said the steps would go a long way to entrench peace and create a sense of belonging for Nigerians.
According to the coalition, “No nation records improvement in the face of crisis and Nigerians are tired of intra ethnic mayhem caused by the activities of the factors cited earlier. The use of force to contain agitations has not worked in any viable democracy rather through dialogue, negotiations and ethnic harmony where the government of the day runs an inclusive government of universal interests.
“As we open our hearts as preached by the Masters of our diverse faiths, imbibing the spirit of Love and co-existing with one another, the human society will be a paradise of excellence unlike the carnages, perils and destructions experienced today due to failure of love and unity spirit in us”.
The PDPCO further explained that Nigeria is a country of diverse ethnic interests, but with manifold love for one another, rapid growth and unity of purpose will be tremendously achieved.
In the same vein, the Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu, in Abia State, Professor Gregory Ibe has enjoined Muslims to sustain the good virtues that made Prophet Mohammed great.
Speaking on the heels of this year’s celebration, he charged Muslim faithfuls to use this opportunity to “offer prayers for peace, unity, prosperity and an end to the insecurities that have tended to destroy our beloved country Nigeria”.
He further encouraged the faithful to put to good use the lessons learned during the Ramadan period, in order to foster love and unity within the society, by sharing with the less privileged persons as exemplified by holy Prophet Mohammed.
Professor Ibe maintained that if Muslim faithful both in Nigeria and around the world uphold and practice and teachings of the Holy Quran, peace and tranquility will reign, while insecurity and corruption that have bedeviled the nation will be a thing of the past.
“This, therefore, is an opportunity for our Muslim brothers and sisters to deepen their relationship with Allah, depicted by life of sacrifice, charity and love for one another. I, therefore, urge all Muslims resident in Abia particularly, and their brethren across Nigeria, to continue to sustain these values and thereby use them as building blocks for the attainment of a peaceful Nigerian nation where everyone will be happy to actualise their dreams”, he concluded
