Tension as men in military uniform invade Rivers community

There was tension on Sunday as men in military uniform were alleged to have invaded Bomu community in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The men were said to have made series of arrest on arrival in the community.

The paramount ruler of the community, His Royal Majesty, Charles Tenalo was also said to have been arrested by the men.

A former paramount ruler of Bomu community, Nyade Nasikpo who confirmed the incident said six persons have been arrested so far.

He said the community has now been deserted as the men in military uniform have threatened to return to the community.

“This morning we were all sleeping. We never envisaged any invasion by security agents but just at about 2 am in the morning, we saw about five vehicles of security agents invading our community, breaking into houses and scattering documents. This morning, they came back again only to arrest the present paramount ruler of Bomu, the immediate past councillor from the community and four others.

“The community is scanty now. People are running away from the community because of the invasion”.

Bomu community has been engaged in a communal clash with neighbouring Lewe community for several months which has led to the death of many.

The Local Government chairman, Confidence Dekor has, however, set up a peace committee to resolve the crisis between the two communities.

The committee is due to commence sitting this week.
