Residents of Osogbo, the Osun State capital have called on the management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to stop any train movement scheduled for Offa-Ilorin stations en-route Osogbo.

It was gathered that because the rail tracks have suffered structural defects as a result of the flood on Tuesday night and as such, the tracks have been exposed and an accident is likely to occur if the train movement is not halted.

The portion of the track affected by the flood, this medium learnt is located Power line Area of the state capital.

A resident, Kazeem Adisa, lamented that he was not sure that the railway authorities have any knowledge of the situation yet.

He also called on government to expedite action and do whatever it took to prevent a waiting disaster from occurring.

An elder in the area, Olugbenga Odediran, cautioned residents to be on the lookout and be careful around the link bridges and areas affected by the flood.

In his words, “Please don’t stand on this bridge around Obate-Okebaale Area. They are weak already.”

Saga Gist had earlier reported that properties worth millions of Naira were destroyed by a heavy downpour in different parts of Osogbo, the state capital after a 3-hour downpour which started around 8 pm and lasted till around 11 pm.

As a result of the heavy downpour, lots of building and bridges have been affected.

Affected areas are: Onireke, Obate, Awosuru, Sadiat, Testing Ground, Atimowa in Osogbo.

Residents have also called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to speedily come to the aid of the affected.
