The Association of Radiographers Nigeria, (ARN), Anambra State Chapter has entered into a partnership with the Anambra State Government to phase out quackery in the State.

This was sequel to a programme of activity launched by the chairman of the Association in the State, Comrade Ifeanyi Ozioko.

He explained that the move became necessary in view of the complaint from members of the public and professional bodies on the continual increase in fake and sharp practices in some health facilities/diagnostic centers, an act he said was inimical to efficient service delivery to the public.

Already a team, made up of stakeholders in allied health, has been launched to ensure adequate monitoring and enforcement.

The team is domiciled under the Medical Support Services department, MSS, of the Anambra State Ministry of Health, which comprises Medical Radiography, Medical laboratory, medical rehabilitation, Dental technology, Nutrition and dietetics, Health record etc.

The MSS was recently inaugurated by the State’s commissioner for health, Dr. Vincent Okpala and is being headed by Lady Apolonia Okeke.

The commissioner was quoted as saying during the inauguration that there was the need to curb quackery and fake practice, noting that health care should be seen as the business of saving lives.

Speaking on the developments, Ozioko told journalists in Enugu that the stakeholders have resolved “to work as a team to curb quackery in private and public settings.

“To embark on public enlightenment through jingles on radio station to curb quackery;

“Periodic inspections, monitoring, ethical quality assurance and accreditation to improve quality of services;

“Supervision of facilities under MSS to be done by professional Associations and MSS monitoring committee that was set up by the Director MSS department, Lady Apolonia okeke after the inaugural meeting Who are stakeholders from the various professions.

The chairman advised all those operating either without relevant certificates or manpower to have a rethink or face the full weight of the law.

“We are using this medium to caution all those bringing a bad image to the profession to rethink. We will no longer sit by and watch them dent the good reputation of this noble profession.

“So, we are by this press statement advising them to ensure a standardization of their services to avoid facing embarrassment from the enforcement team,” Ozioko warned.
