The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youths Worldwide, OYC, has commended the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, over the decision to suspend the sit-at-home order tomorrow, Monday.
OYC had last week urged the IPOB to suspend the order to allow students sit for the ongoing NECO examination.
At a press conference, Okwu had “appealed that the decision be reconsidered in the interest of our people. May we not forget that most of the people we are fighting for are artisans who feed on their daily incomes and asking them to remain at home after the weekend break would impose serious economic burden on them.
“Besides, the National Examination Council, NECO, examination is also on-going and our youths, the future of tomorrow are taking part in that exam. Would we now say they should miss their examinations on such days? Our humble appeal is that we seek a political solution to this matter. We will not fail to thank the members of the IPOB for maintaining peace and resisting the temptation to protest, in the midst of provocation.”
On Sunday, Kanunta Kanu, the younger brother of the IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, said the order had been suspended to enable students sit for the examination.
Reacting in a terse statement issued by the President-General of OYC, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, he hailed the Biafra group for heeding the voice of reason.
“We want sincerely thank the IPOB family for suspending the sit-at-home order.
“The Ohanaeze Youths Worldwide are happy that they heeded the voice of reason considering the ongoing NECO examination.
“Many of our young ones are sitting for this examination to cure the defect they have in mathematics and we can’t worsen their woes by not allowing them to sit for the examination.
“Like we said before, we need political solution to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s ordeal, he is a political prisoner, and for that reason, we will not stop appealing to South-East leaders to step up action and ensure his unconditional release,” the OYC demanded.
Meanwhile, it appears there is a disconnect in the IPOB family as the group’s spokesman, Comrade Emma Powerful is insisting that Kalunta cannot speak for IPOB over the sit-at-home order.
