Dr. Bethrand Odume, the Executive Director of KNCV Nigeria, has said the Nigerian National Tuberculosis (TB) programme is effectively working to find the 300,000 missing cases of Tuberculosis hidden in 14 states of the federation.
Despite efforts to rid Nigeria of the disease, it is still ranked seventh out of the 30 highest-burden countries for tuberculosis and has over 440,000 incidents of infections annually.
The Executive Director of KNCV Nigeria said his organization is committed to ensuring that Nigerians who are dying from Tuberculosis are found and given access to effective treatments.
Nigeria boldly takes second place in Africa as the country with the highest-burden of Tuberculosis.
But in a statement, to mark KNCV Nigeria’s fifth year anniversary, Dr. Bethrand Odume said he was positive that his team will continue to fish out unreported cases of Tuberculosis in communities.
“The drive of our staff has been phenomenal and their commitment to fulfilling our vision and mission is beyond question.
“I know that we will continue to ensure that we find the missing TB cases in 14 states where we work in Nigeria as we strive to see a Nigeria free of tuberculosis.
Currently, TB accounts for more than 10 percent of all deaths in Nigeria, every hour, nearly 30 people die from the disease, despite the availability of treatments.
“Through the last five years, your talents and efforts have helped KNCV Nigeria achieve significant successes. Together, we take pride in your accomplishments and commitment to excellence.” The Board Chairman of KNCV Nigeria, Prof John Idoko, told the team.
