Yobe Assembly moves to block revenue leakages through legislation

 

Yobe State House of Assembly on Tuesday received a bill seeking consolidation and codification of internal revenue law.

The bill which was presented by the executive arm of government has scaled through the second reading on the floor of the House after extensive deliberations by members.

Leading the debate on the bill, Leader of the House, Alhaji Bukar Mustapha said the bill when passed into law will improve sources of revenue generation in order to reduce over dependence on monthly federal allocation.

Mustapha also said, the bill will provide the basis for restructuring revenue system and harmonize its collection in order to block leakages across the state.

The Leader of the House who spoke at length on the importance of the bill, noted that it will assist the executive arm of government to provide more dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

Presiding over the sitting, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Alhaji Mohammed Isa Bello committed the bill to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation for further legislative action.

The committee was given three weeks to report back to the House for consideration.
