Bandits abduct 32, kill police officer in Kaduna communities

 

Suspected bandits have again attacked two Kaduna villages: Unguwan Maje and Ungwan Laka communities, killed a police inspector and kidnapped 23 others in Chikun Local government area of the State.

A resident of the area, Mr. Shuaibu Joshua said the bandits stormed the villages in large numbers and started shooting sporadically.

According to him, “The bandits first attacked Ungwan Maje, where they abducted 16 persons, majority of them were women and children.”

He said the bandits later attacked Ungwan Laka, where a mobile police inspector, Joshua Markus, who came to visit his family from Rivers State, was killed.

“The bandits abducted seven persons, including the wife and daughter of the deceased policeman,” he said.

A retired military personnel, who is a resident of Ungwan Laka, was said to have narrowly escaped with his family, but his car and motorcycle were burnt by the gunmen.

The corpse of the police inspector was said to have been deposited at the Saint Gerald Catholic Hospital, Kaduna.

Reacting to the sad development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Jalige said he was not aware of the incident, but promised to make findings and revert.
