A police officer was shot by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers along the Auchi-Igarrra road in Edo State.
The operative, Suleiman Muhammed, is attached to the Igarra Police Station in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area.
The incident occurred Tuesday night. vigilantes rescued the policeman and took him for medical care.
The gunmen, who carried AK-47 rifles, ambushed and shot Muhammed at close range. Bullets hit his arm and stomach.
The victim is receiving treatment at the Irrua Specialist Hospital, security sources said. The Police are on the trail of the attackers.
