Kwara reads riot act to ongoing SUBEB projects contractors

Appropriate punitive measures await contractors who fail to comply with specifications of the ongoing intervention projects of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB.

Chairman of the board, Professor Shehu Raheem Adaramaja, handed down the warning while inspecting ongoing UBEC/SUBEB intervention projects for 2014/2019 at Gorobani village, Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.

Saga Gist reports that various renovation or rehabilitation works are ongoing across 600 schools in the state after the state government accessed seven-year matching grants from the UBEC.

He warned that contractors who failed to meet project specifications and quality in the ongoing projects, risked revocation of their contracts and possible blacklist.

Professor Adaramaja, said, “to the contractors, the message is clear, get it done and get paid, failure to do that, we will reverse the contract. After the first and second warning, the third warning, is to revoke the contract.”

According to him, the guideline was clear and the board will not compromise.

He said “we don’t want a situation where somebody will just write to us requesting for payment, we want to see the percentage of work done before payment is made, because, we don’t want to have abandoned projects.”

The board chairman said payment for the projects would be based on actual job, because, “we don’t want people to run away with public money.”

“That is the message from Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and we are happy for that, we appreciate him for toeing the path of honour,” he further stated.

On his assessment of the projects, Professor Adaramaja said some contractors performed excellently well, while others performed below expectations and they were told what to do.

“We rejected some projects outrightly and we have instructed the contractors to start again.

“From this supervision, we discovered a number of infractions which we have corrected.

“We got one in Ipe, Oyun Local Government Area, another one in ECWA, we also caught another in Ala, in Isin Local Government Area of the state,” he stated.
