Man Utd vs Aston Villa: Solskjaer reveals why Fernandes took penalty instead of Ronaldo

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has confirmed that Bruno Fernandes took the penalty against Aston Villa, because “the decision was made before the game”.

The Red Devils’ unbeaten start to this season ended on Saturday, thanks to a 1-0 defeat against the Midlands club at Old Trafford.

Kortney Hause headed in a corner before giving away a late penalty, as referee Mike Dean penalized him for handball.

However, with Cristiano Ronaldo still on the pitch, Fernandes took responsibility and blasted the ball into the stands.

When asked if Fernandes was first choice to take the spot kick, Solskjaer told Sky Sports: “Yes. The decision was made before the game.”

The result leaves United in fourth place with 13 points.
