The All Progressives Congress (APC) conducted a hitch free ward congress in southern Taraba after the timely intervention of some chieftains of the party in the state.
Saga Gist reports that the congress could have been crippled by the member representing Wukari/Ibi Constituency at the lower chamber of the National Assembly, Danjuma Usman Shiddi, and his supporters
Shiddi and his supporters, it would be recalled, had earlier threatened to boycott the exercise following the decision of the party to adopt a consensus method for the exercise, a situation he and his supporters kicked against.
Speaking with media practitioners, Shiddi, who also doubles as the leader of the southern Taraba APC, said, “after due consultations with majority of the APC stakeholders in Southern Taraba, my teeming supporters and the valuable people of Southern Taraba, my team and I heed to the call of the people to proceed and actively participate in the congress.”
While some critical stakeholders of the party solidly stood behind the consensus method, Shiddi and his supporters were observed to have opted out of the arrangement advocating for the election process.
His move, which almost tore supporters of the party apart, was curtailed following the swift intervention of some of the party’s chieftains.
Calling on his supporters to remain calm and eschew acts that would jeopardize the dream of the party, he expressed optimism that the leadership of the party at the national level will wade in and address all the gray areas earlier pointed out before the exercise.
“As a core democrat and committed Party man” he assured his supporters ” and the good people of Southern Taraba that a level playing ground would soon be reached by the APC National Secretariat”.
According to him, “such inconsistencies, though inevitable in political affairs, does not take a greater space in the political affairs of Southern Taraba, most especially in the coming 2023 general elections where you have graciously recommended that I represent you at the National Parliament in the capacity as your Distinguished Senator”.
Shiddi whom our correspondent gathered was among the politicians from the zone warming up to jostle for the Senate post of the zone come next general poll, also vowed not to leave any stone unturned in ensuring that the party at the center insert the right peg in the right hole stating that “people are very important in my capacity as the leader of the party in southern Taraba.”
“In these unprecedented and immensely challenging times” he drummed never to cease from carrying the people of his constituency along irrespective of political, religious and tribal affiliations, hence the need for the party, as suggested by him, to always carry party members along.
