The Adamawa State Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Ibrahim Bilal, has denied speculation that he is working for Aisha Buhari, wife of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speculations have been rife that Bilal is working to protect the interest of Aisha, a daughter of Adamawa State and that he used her money and influence to ensure the return of Bilal as the state APC chairman through the recent state congress.
It has also been speculated that Aisha is keen on her brother, Ahmed Halilu Modi clinching the Adamawa APC governorship ticket of the party come 2023 and that Bilal has been mandated to make it happen.
In an interaction with newsmen in Yola, however, Ibrahim Bilal said he is committed to transparently fair party primaries into all elective offices under the party ahead of 2023 and would not seek undue favour for anybody.
Bilal specifically denied entering any pact with Aisha Buhari to favour the emergence of her younger brother Modi as APC gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 governorship polls.
“Aisha Buhari is our mother in the state. She’s also a staunch APC supporter. So also is the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha and the Minister of FCT, Mohammed Bello,” Bilal said, stressing that such leaders are neutral in the affairs of the party and would not ask the party to prop any particular person up for a favour.
Bilal who said APC’s defeat in 2019 resulted from disunity, promised to ensure the conduct of transparent, free and fair primaries in choosing the governorship candidate of the party to consolidate the unity of the party.
“The task before me is herculean, and it is to ensure we reclaim power. We lost polls in 2019 because we went with a divided house. My pledge as chairman now is to ensure the unity of our party,” he said.
