Former Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Ibadan, Professor Abideen Adeyinka Aderinto has declared that it is time for him to move on by supporting the new Vice Chancellor of the university.
Aderinto noted that this became necessary because of the interest of the university.
Our correspondent recalls that a former National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) had yesterday announced Professor Kayode Adebowale as the 13the Vice Chancellor of the university.
Saga Gist recalls that the governing council of the institution had earlier shortlisted 8 candidates for the position of Vice Chancellor of the premier University established in 1948.
Saga Gist gathered that Aderinto who is the immediate past Head of Department of Sociology, topped the eight shortlisted candidates.
It was learnt that Adebowale who was later announced by Oyegun as VC, came sixth among the 8 candidates.
Aderinto who came first in the contest has, however, congratulated the professor who was declared as VC.
The Criminologist in a statement on Friday, insisted that it is now time for him to move on after putting his best in the contest.
He noted that it is imperative to support the don who was announced in the interest of the institution.
He added that he has joined other members of the university community to congratulate the new VC.
Aderinto said, “Let me join others in congratulating Prof K. Adebowale on his emergence as our next Vice Chancellor.
“I also desired the position, and gave it my all, but it’s not meant to be this time around. It has pleased God, the decider of all affairs, to hand over the leadership of our University to Prof Adebowale for the next five years.
“We pray that Almighty God will grant him good health, wisdom and all that he may require to succeed in the office.
“After more than one year of an engaging contest, it is time to move on and support the new boss in the interest of our University.
“May Almighty God give us the Grace to please Him in all our ways. Congratulations, Mr. VC.”
