World greatest player: Why it hurts me to compare Messi, Ronaldo - Gary Lineker

Former Barcelona and Leicester City striker, Gary Lineker, has said that it hurts him to compare Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi and Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo because both players are ‘gigantic’.

Lineker believes there is ‘no comparison’ in the age-old debate on who is the greatest player between Messi and Ronaldo because of the things that the Argentine captain does.

Messi has won the Ballon d’ Or six times, while Ronaldo has won it five times.

“I did meet Diego many times. He had an overwhelming personality – Leo [Messi] is more shy. But, on the field, I never saw two such great stars,” Lineker told Marca.

“Sometimes, people fall for me when I say that Messi is greater than Cristiano.

“I also love Ronaldo. I respect him very much, he is a giant too.

“But my honest football opinion is that there is no comparison as to who is the best – because of the things that Leo does.

“That said, it even hurts me to compare them, because they are both gigantic.”
