Ballon dOr: Ex-Chelsea star snubs Jorginho, names player to win award

Former Chelsea midfielder, Gustavo Poyet, has snubbed Jorginho and backed Liverpool ace, Mohamed Salah to win the Ballon d’Or this year.

Poyet believes Salah should be voted to win the 2021 Ballon d’Or because he is certainly the best currently ahead of Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Paris Saint-Germain duo, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.

He stated this ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Arsenal this weekend.

Salah was recently included among the 30-man nominees shortlisted for the 2021 Ballon d’Or.

The Egyptian international will rival Jorginho, Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappe, among others, for the Ballon d’ Or this year.

“Certainly, you cannot vote for [Lionel] Messi or [Cristiano] Ronaldo in the Ballon d’Or, perhaps Mbappe or Salah, but the latter certainly is the best,” Poyet told Al-Hayah TV.

“His [Salah’s] influence in matches is better than Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mbappe, even if he does not score.”

The winner for this year’s Ballon d’Or will be announced on November 29.
