Protest rocks Akure as policeman kills one, accident claims two others

Tension engulfed Akure, the Ondo State capital on Wednesday, following the killing of three persons.

A police officer attached to a filling station along the popular Arakale road within Akure metropolis was said to have shot one person dead while trying to disperse a crowd from a car accident scene where an okada rider and a passenger had already lost their lives.

Angered by the situation, those within the Arakale axis blocked the busy road as they protested the killing.

With the protesters attempting to attack the policeman, police operatives from A-Division Station quickly rescued the killer cop from the mob.

Following the move, some okada riders in their numbers marched to the A-Division Police Station where they lit bon-fires and barricaded the Oba Adesida road.
