The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Kwara State on Monday prevented staff who are yet to collect their COVID-19 vaccines, from gaining access to the office premises along GRA, Ilorin.

A statement by the Media Unit of the zonal command in Ilorin on Monday said the step was taken in strict compliance with the directive by the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19, which mandated all Federal Civil Servants to be vaccinated or have evidence of negative PCR test for COVID-19, effective from Dec. 1, 2021, in order to access government offices.

The EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, had directed that the Federal Government’s directive be complied with, in all the Commands of the Commission, including its Head Office, Abuja.

The Deputy Zonal Commander of the Command, ACE II Atinuke Akinroyeje, who carried out the enforcement order at the zonal command, was at the Command’s barrier (gate) as early as 7am in the morning to prevent yet-to-be vaccinated staff from entering the premises.

She allowed only those who were able to provide evidence of vaccination access into the premises.

Addressing staff on the reason for the enforcement, Akinroyeje, said the action was taken to ensure that staff of the Commission were safe and were vaccinated against coronavirus diseases, following reports on the emergence of a new variant of COVID-19 otherwise known as Omicron.

She displayed her COVID-19 vaccine card and enjoined other staff that have not been vaccinated to visit the nearest designated health centre to get themselves vaccinated against the deadly coronavirus diseases noting that, “the vaccine is safe and effective”.

Akinroyeje said, “henceforth only staff who are able to provide their COVID-19 vaccine cards will be allowed to enter office”.

She also warned the staff not to hide under the order to run away from work unduly, adding that attendance and punctuality at work by staff would be strictly monitored.

She further cautioned that “absence from work without leave is a serious misconduct and will be met with appropriate sanction”.
