EPL: Arteta reacts after Arsenal star, Gabriel, fought armed robbers attacking his home

Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta has praised Gabriel Magalhaes after the defender courageously fought off thieves who were armed with baseball bats at his home.

The Spanish gaffer said that the incident, which happened in August, left the 23-year-old ‘shocked’.

The manager praised the defender for showing ‘character’ when the thieves attacked his home.

Gabriel and his friend were followed home after they attended a party and were confronted by two thieves.

CCTV footage shows the Brazilian handing over his watch and car keys to one of the robbers, who was threatening him with a baseball bat.

But moments later, the football star pounced on the hooded thief in the face and wrestled him to the ground.

Although the thief managed to escape, he was arrested later through a DNA test after he left his at the scene.

Later identified as Abderaham Muse, 26, the robber was jailed for five years last month.

When asked about the incident, during his pre-match press conference on Wednesday, Arteta said, “Obviously it’s not a nice thing to go through when you have family involved and they [the thieves] are trying to access your own house.

“Gabi showed a lot of character, you see the reaction he had straight away. Credit to the boy.

“After that he was fine, obviously he was shocked. There were a few things he wanted to change in his life to try to prevent those things from happening.

“The club have given him all the support that was needed to try to forget about this situation, learn from it and move on.”
