EPL: Paul Merson snubs Ronaldo, names best Portuguese player in Premier League

Arsenal legend, Paul Merson has snubbed Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo and named Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva as the best Portuguese player in the Premier League at the moment.

Merson said this ahead of Manchester City’s Premier League tie with Wolves on Saturday afternoon.

Silva has been impressive for Pep Guardiola’s side since joining the Premier League champions from Monaco in 2017.

The 27-year-old has made over 140 appearances and scored over 25 goals for Man City.

“I think Bernardo Silva is the best Portuguese player in the Premier League at the moment.

“It isn’t even close, is it? Make no mistake – he’s never going to achieve the heights [Cristiano] Ronaldo has scaled in his career.

“At the moment, however, you’d be hard-pressed to look past Bernardo Silva,” Merson told Sportskeeda.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo has been impressive for Man United since he rejoined the club in the summer from Juventus.

The former Real Madrid star currently has six Premier League goals and also helped Ralf Rangnick’s side to qualify for the Champions League last-16.
