Police in Niger State have nabbed one Mohammed Bala, member of a four man-gang of kidnapping syndicate behind the twelve letters of threats of a planned attack on people of Kampani-jibrin village via Nasko, Magama Local Government Area of the state.
The police also recovered US Dollar notes, fake CFA and Naira currencies among other items in possession of the suspects.
It was gathered the gang had dispatched a total of 12 letters, threatening to unleash attack on the village that were all kept inside the community mosque before the police busted their plan
The other gang members comprise a Cameroonian, one Kariya, Umar of Kano State and one other who are all presently at large.
Parading the suspects, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said the arrest was based on credible information that hoodlums suspected to be kidnappers wrote a letter, threatening to attack people of Kampani-jibrin village via Nasko, Magama LGA.
He stated, “Upon the receipt of the information, the Command swung into action and based on technical intelligence, on 03/12/2021 at about 0830hrs, Police operatives attached to Nasko Division arrested one Bala Mohammed aged 30yrs ‘m’ of Wawa village via New-Bussa, Borgu LGA in connection with the crime.”
The PPRO revealed, “The suspect confessed to being a member of a four-man gang of kidnapping syndicate consisting of a Cameroonian, one Kariya, Umar ‘m’ of Kano State and one other, all presently at large.
“The gang conspired and originated the said letter to the community while twelve other letters were equally recovered from the community mosque.”
According to him, the suspect claimed that he bought the pistol in his possession over a year ago for his personal protection from an unknown person at kampani-waya village, Nasko.
He also disclosed that the suspect claimed the fake currency in his possession was given to him by one Aminu Sabon-Pegi, Jamilu Tatabo and Abdulmalik to sell to one Ndamodu of Bida area of the state.
The following exhibits recovered from the suspect’s residence at Kampani-jibrin include one locally-made pistol, four mobile phones, four similar threat letters, fifteen sim cards, and charms.
Other items are 11 pieces of one hundred dollars and ten thousand FRANCS CFA suspected to be fake as well as notes of naira currency to the tune of two hundred and fifty thousand, suspected to be counterfeit.
Abiodun further added that effort is ongoing to arrest other suspects as the case is under investigation.
